Battling Heaviness

Isa. 61: 2 - '...put on the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness...'

The Word of God teaches us that heaviness is a spirit.  We carry this spirit for several reasons...what I've come to know over the years in ministry is, many carry this spirit because they do not understand how to process failure.  Some of us set unrealistic standards for ourselves, and whenever we fall short of them, we brood over it and give ourselves to self - pity, even despair!

God gives us the remedy for this spirit we battle on a daily basis...that is praise and worship!  Heaviness places so much concentration on yourself, no wonder it's so easy to transition into depression or condemnation.  Worship however, will remedy most of this...along side of humility and responsibility.

Understand that worship is a choice.  It's more than what you do - God says, it's what you 'put on.'  That tells me that we either choose to praise God and give Him glory, or we choose not to.  I've heard people say in the past, 'I couldn't help but give God all the praise!'  That sounds good, but the truth is, you can help it!  IT'S A CHOICE.

Back to the issue here - allow me to ask you this question...just how do you process failure?  When you fail, and trust me you will...what do you do?  Do you seclude yourself with a bucket of ice cream?  Do you rise up and fight everyone who recalls the failure to you?  Or do you go to the Lord in prayer and ask Him to help you in your areas of weakness?  Self - pity is a waste of energy!  It will also make you and enemy of God > it gives way to unbelief, and we know that without faith, it is impossible to please God.

I'm telling you as your brother in Christ - place the garment of praise over you and worship God despite your  circumstances...let God be God in everything we do.  I encourage you to get real with God, and let Him move in on your heart and make some serious changes.
